25-year-old Brodey I. Murbarger is set to appear in a status hearing via Zoom in Wayne County Circuit Court at 10:30 Tuesday morning. The county will return to scheduling jury trials on that date, so the hearing will allow his defense and the prosecution to discuss the possibility of setting a trial date. No new evidence or motion outside of scheduling a jury trial is anticipated.
Fairfield Community High School sophomore Aiden Whitfield recently won the regional ICTM Geometry competition, earning a medal for placing at the top of more than 30 participants, according to Math Team Coach Tammy Austin. Austin, also Scholastic Bowl coach, also announced Jalysse Kinney was recently named the most valuable player for the varsity scholastic team. ....

The Fairfield Community High School Board of Education met last night and accepted bids for work on air conditioning in the east gym and construction at door 2. The projects, along with technology upgrades at the school, will be paid primarily through the CARES Grant. The board also accepted the resignation of Jenna Jones and approved the employment of Rhiannon Bridgeman as math teacher.
FCHS has announced Jacob Britt, Brenna Freeman, Karigan Harvey, Jalysse Kinney, Tegan Ruhl, Colbie Sutton, and Callie Vaughan have been named Illinois State Scholars. State Scholars represent approximately the top 10 percent of seniors from 726 high schools across the state, chosen based on a combination of ACT or SAT scores and sixth semester class rank. The City of Fairfield and Wayne-White Electric Cooperative have reached an agreement on an Electric Operations and Maintenance Contract. The two entities say, beginning January 1, 2022, the co-op will provide all new construction, system improvements, and maintenance on the City’s electric system, and it will also send and collect the electric bill. The agreement is dependent upon Hoosier Energy purchasing the 138 KV and 69 KV transmission systems, and the City Council intends to discuss and vote on the contract at its meeting this coming Tuesday.
35-year-old Fairfield resident Jeremy M.T. Ralston was sentenced yesterday in Wayne County Circuit Court. He pleaded guilty last March to a Class 2 felony count of delivery of less than five grams of meth, and he was sentenced to two years probation, plus time served. Several other cases against him were dismissed per his plea, and Ralston was ordered to pay $4,911 in fines and court costs, including $1,000 in restitution to Gerald ....

The Wayne County Health Department will offer four remote COVID-19 vaccination clinics tomorrow for people in Phases 1A, 1B, and 1B Part Two of the vaccine rollout. 50 doses will be given per site, and clinics will be held at the Mt. Erie Ruritan Building and Orchardville Church from 10 to noon and at the Cisne Community Center and Wayne City Community Building from 1:30 to 3:30. 43-year-old Fairfield resident Jason P. Nelson was sentenced in Wayne County Circuit Court yesterday. He pleaded guilty in December to a count of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
