Recalling a 1920 plane crash which a Grange man survived
As a small boy my imagination was captured by aeroplanes although I rarely saw one. In the early 1950s, images and stories from the World War penetrated neutral Ireland. Sometimes Spitfires of the Air Corps tore through the sky around Sligo and we gawped at these magical machines, their Celtic roundels and tricolour under wing stripes so different from the RAF rings shown in our comics.
