Appleton sign: Homophobic slur, Joseph McCarthy on Richmond Street

Appleton Post-Crescent
APPLETON - An electronic sign on North Richmond Street is again likely to produce outrage, displaying a homophobic slur and images of former Wisconsin Sen. Joseph McCarthy.
The sign, on a building at 200 N. Richmond St., displays a picture of the infamous politician from Appleton and a series of messages that read Where did the f -s . Put My Head? . I m Joe McCarthey (sic) . I was right.
The head in the message might be a reference to the bust of McCarthy, which was dedicated in 1959 at the Outagamie County Justice Center. After on-and-off discussions for years about the bust s public appropriateness, it was donated in 2001 to the History Museum at the Castle.  ....
