Cherokee Nation installs 2 bee pollinator homes provided by The Bee Conservancy


TAHLEQUAH – The Cherokee Nation received two native bee houses from The Bee Conservancy organization in April through the organization’s Sponsor-A-Hive program. 
The houses were installed April 21 and will be among 16 other bee pollinator homes in the tribe’s heirloom garden, which were installed in 2020 as part of an initiative by first lady January Hoskin to boost pollinator populations. 
According to a CN press release, pollinators are crucial to the survival of Earth’s ecosystems, with nearly 80% of the crops grown around the world requiring pollination by animals or insects. According to The Bee Conservancy, 1 in 4 species are at risk of extinction, with more than half of North America’s native bee species being in decline. With the expansion of industrial agriculture and human development, habitat loss is the primary threat to pollinators, states the release.  ....

Cherokee Nation to unveil electric rural transit, school buses in region


TAHLEQUAH – The Cherokee Nation on Monday will unveil the tribe’s first rural electric transit buses – among the first in the country – and first electric school bus, which is the first in the state, as part of its efforts to reduce the tribe’s carbon footprint. 
The CN celebrates Earth Day by announcing several key initiatives with events planned each day next week. 
On Monday at 12:30 p.m.
 at the Cherokee Casino Tahlequah electric bus charging station in the northeast parking lot, the announcement of the electric buses will be held.
