Half Dozen Statesmen Honored by Heart Oskaloosa–Six members of the William Penn baseball team were honored for extraordinary campaigns this season as the all-Heart of America Athletic Conference awards were announced Friday. Starting pitcher Teddy Natter (Jr., Reno, Nev., Business Management) and outfielder Tanner Bedier (So., Bondurant, Iowa, Business Management) were two of 17 first-team selections, while the trio of first baseman Jarrett Hunt (Sr., Logan, Utah, Digital Communications), second baseman Adrian Garcia (Sr., Ontario, Calif., Sociology), and starting pitcher Chase Stratton (Sr., Clearfield, Utah, Sports Management) joined a crew of 24 on the honorable-mention list. Hunt, Quiroga Collect March POM Awards Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the March Player of the Month laurels. Senior baseball player Jarrett Hunt (Logan, Utah, Digital Communication) earned the Male award, while freshman softball player Valeria Quiroga (San Benito, Texas, Sociology) claimed the Female honor. The accolade is the first for both individuals. In 20 games during March, Hunt hit .459 (28-for-61) with five doubles and one triple. He tallied 12 RBIs and 19 runs scored, while drawing 12 walks. The senior’s slugging percentage was .574, while his on-base clip was .558. Hunt, who had eight multi-hit games (high of five hits), led the Statesmen to a 14-6 record during the month. ....
Statesmen Take Three on the Road at Graceland Lamoni–The Statesmen traveled to Lamoni for a four game set against the Graceland Yellowjackets. William Penn returned home having won three of four against their hosts, splitting the first day with a 12-10 win and a 5-1 defeat, and ending the series with victories of 17-4 and 13-3. Statesmen Split Unconventional Doubleheader Oskaloosa–The Statesmen began a four game set against the Clarke Pride on Sunday in unconventional fashion as Clarke played the role of the home team on Penn Field. The series was scheduled to be played down in Peosta, but weather rendered the home field of the Pride unplayable for Saturday and Sunday, so the series began in Oskaloosa in the effort of staying as close to the schedule as possible. The Statesmen split the first doubleheader with Clarke, dropping the first game by a score of 4-0 before taking the victory in the nightcap, 2-1. The doubleheader split moved the Statesmen’s record to 19-6 overall, while their Heart of America Athletic Conference record moved to 8-2. ....
