The bats got off to a quick start aided by a trio of free passes as Adrian Garcia (Sr., Ontario, Calif., Mechanical Engineering) Jarrett Hunt (Sr., Logan, Utah, Digital Communications), and Dominic Bravo (Sr., Downey, Calif., Digital Communications) were all given an easy base, with Hunt and Bravo getting dosed. Alex Fisher (Jr., Sydney, Australia, Biology) came to bat with the bases juiced and two away and delivered in a big way, launching a three run double to get the scoring started early.

After two low scoring affairs on Sunday, the Statesmen offense came hot out of the gates to begin the first game of Monday. Adrian Garcia (Sr., Ontario, Calif., Mechanical Engineering) got things started with a bullet single to right. Up stepped Tanner Bedier (So., Bondurant, Iowa, Sports Management), who blasted one down the right field line and had just enough height to get over the fence. His first home run of the year gave the Statesmen an early 2-0 lead.

Statesmen Split Unconventional Doubleheader - Oskaloosa News

Statesmen Split Unconventional Doubleheader
Oskaloosa–The Statesmen began a four game set against the Clarke Pride on Sunday in unconventional fashion as Clarke played the role of the home team on Penn Field.
The series was scheduled to be played down in Peosta, but weather rendered the home field of the Pride unplayable for Saturday and Sunday, so the series began in Oskaloosa in the effort of staying as close to the schedule as possible.
The Statesmen split the first doubleheader with Clarke, dropping the first game by a score of 4-0 before taking the victory in the nightcap, 2-1. The doubleheader split moved the Statesmen’s record to 19-6 overall, while their Heart of America Athletic Conference record moved to 8-2.

Statesmen Start Conference Play Strong on the Road
Canton, Mo.– The William Penn baseball team made the trip down to Canton over the weekend as they began Heart of America Athletic Conference play against the Culver-Stockton Wildcats.

Chase Stratton (Sr., Clearfield, Utah, Sports Management) was on the mound to begin the team’s conference slate, and he continued his momentum from his previous two starts as he held the Wildcats scoreless through three innings, retiring the first seven batters he faced before a runner reached on an error. The error proved harmless for the Statesmen, as the next two batters were set down with ease to keep the hosts off the board.

Joplin, Mo.–The William Penn baseball team headed down to Joplin for the weekend for a quartet of games. They squared off against Northwestern and Park on Saturday, and faced Jamestown and Saint Mary in their Sunday doubleheader.

WPU 3 NU 0
The Statesmen received some help from the opposition in the first inning, as three errors in the infield led to all three William Penn runs for the afternoon. Jameson Hart (Jr., Sarnia, Ontario, Sports Management) was able to cash in with runners on the corners and drove a single the opposite way to drive in Alex Fisher (Jr., Sydney, Australia, Biology). After a fielder’s choice, back to back singles from Dominic Bravo (Sr., Downey, Calif., Digital Communications) and Soren Graversen (Jr., Calgary, Alberta, Human Services) pushed the lead to 3.
