The Festival at Sandpoint celebrated its 2023 volunteers at a special appreciation event Tuesday, Aug. 22 and named Tim Rosco as the 2023 Volunteer of the Year. Rosco has volunteered for the Festival at Sandpoint since 2009, for a total of 15 years with the nonprofit organization. Rosco is the front gate co-chair alongside Kelly Whitman and helps oversee and manage one of the largest departments, with upward of 60 volunteers working each night.

A Cherokee Nation citizen who served her country during World War II died on April 29 at the age of 100.

A 100-year-old Cherokee Nation citizen was honored Aug. 15 for serving her country during World War II as part of the groundbreaking Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps.

Julie Thomas, the communications coordinator for the district, noted “the building is more than just bricks.” “It’s the people who were part of the building, and we’re excited to give them an opportunity to come in, meet with their friends, and enjoy seeing it,” she said.
