'Pregnant mothers are at risk with the new variant'

Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, Director, Institute of Allergy, Immunology and Cell Biology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura stated that tests have already commenced on the samples provided.
He said samples selected would also be used for coronavirus analysis.
The All Ceylon Nurses Association states that in the face of the current situation of coronavirus, immediate action should be taken to ensure the health and safety of hospital staff, especially nurses.
Its General Secretary S.B. Mediwatte said that steps should be taken to provide safe accommodation and transport facilities for nurses.

J'pura University begins research on corona strain variations in the country

The Institute of Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura has already commenced genetic analysis research to determine whether variations in the viral variations have occurred of coronavirus infections reported in Sri Lanka.
Director of the institute Dr. Chandima Jeewandara stated that the relevant research is being carried out using biological samples provided to the institute for PCR testing and samples sent by the Ministry of Health.
The Institute of Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura has been conducting PCR tests since March and around 80,000 tests have been carried out so far. ....

New Coronavirus variant could enter Sri Lanka via Middle East

Government doctors warn of a possible entry in Sri Lanka of the new variant of the Coronavirus found in Britain and Africa via arrivals from the Middle East.
