The end of greyhound racing in the Sunshine State is at hand. No longer will greyhounds be left in their crates for 22-plus hours a day or be made to run for their lives risking serious injury and sometimes death. It will all soon be over.
To their credit, Florida voters overwhelmingly supported Amendment 13 in November 2018, setting the stage for a phaseout of greyhound racing culminating in its prohibition by the end of 2020. Amendment 13, sponsored by former Senate President Tom Lee, passed with 69 percent approval, making it clear that Floridians love dogs and want to protect them. ....
