Another community service amenity to help tie-in Moberly s heritage with the railroad industry was officially welcomed Thursday when a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Depot Park to announce the newly constructed pavilion and restroom facility are now available for public use.
“We ve been into our sales tax proposal two years now and this is one of the projects we said we were going to do for our community and today you can see a promise is kept,” Moberly Parks and Recreation Department Director Troy Bock said.
Bock extended his appreciation to past city council and park board members, Moberly Rotary Club for their support as well as naming the businesses directly involved into the construction of the pavilion and public restroom facility of Depot Park. ....

Jerry Jeffrey and Tim Brubaker were both re-elected to serve another 3-year term on the Moberly City Council as they faced no opposition on the April 6 election ballot. As part of the re-organizing process at the start of Monday s city council business meeting, Jeffrey was named by the council to continue to serve as mayor and Brubaker keeps his mayor pro-tem position. John Kimmons, Cole Davis and Austin Kyser are the other council members.

Randolph County's municipal election results for various board positions

There were two contested races in Randolph County s 2021 Municipal Election held April 6 that had a close ballot outcome.
The 1-year open seat on the Huntsville City Council to represent Ward 3 went to Connie Kissell. She edged Heather Garnett by a 16-14 vote to claim that position while Jodi Lewis garnered eight votes.
Robert Ashworth retains his seat representing the South Ward on the Higbee Board of Aldermen as he edged Jim Johnson by a 19-14 ballot count.
Higbee voters elected Rusty Ratliff and William Smith to serve on its school board as they were the top two vote getters among four that filed for office. Ratliff had 82 votes and Smith 63. Chad Crawford and Lyann Ritter received 51 and 30 votes respectively. ....

Moberly city council discusses warming center needs

With wind chill temperatures reaching double-digits below zero degrees in Moberly the past several days and the weather forecast shows its repeat through at least the end of this week, the city council at its Tuesday business meeting voted 3-2 against an idea for the Municipal Auditorium basement be used as a temporary warming center for the public.
During an open discussion session, councilman Austin Kyser brought up the subject saying there are some city governments in the state that is using some of its facilities to serve as warming centers under certain weather conditions. He added that those cities worked with community civic service organizations in scheduling volunteers to help provide these services, and believes Moberly is in need of an overnight warming center location. ....

Persons interested in serving on a school board, city council or township board, health and ambulance department boards within Randolph County have until 5 p.m. Jan. 19 to file for such positions by contacting each respective political subdivision to officially have their name listed on the April 6 Municipal Election ballot.
