Volansi, a technology company that builds winged drones at its Buchanan Field Airport location, is competing with 17 other companies including aircraft behemoths Boeing and Lockheed Martin for a slice of the Air Force s $400 million pie to manufacture drone and drone part prototypes. Volansi intends to develop artificial-intelligence drones that interact and exchange information with human pilots, similar in some ways to Star Wars droid R2-D2 relaying critical data to Luke Skywalker on his X-Wing exploits, Air Force acquisition executive Will Roper told Inside Defense last year. ....
