Only about 27 percent of police departments supply use-of-force data to FBI: report

Approximately 27 percent of police departments in the country supplied use-of-force data to the FBI in 2020, marking the second year in a row that a majority of agencies failed to provide information to the bureau.
According to the FBI’s National Use-of-Force Data Collection, 5,030 out of 18,514 federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies in the nation provided use-of-force data to the FBI in 2020, which covers 42 percent of sworn officers in the nation.
The FBI said in a statement, however, that it is urging more departments to send in information, adding that final 2020 numbers, which are still being compiled and are expected to be released this summer, will cover 50 percent of officers in the country, according to The Washington Post.

Derek Chauvin guilty in death of George Floyd

That view conflicted somewhat with the Hennepin County Medical Center’s autopsy of Floyd, which labeled his death a homicide and attributed it to "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression." Dr. Andrew Baker, who performed the autopsy, said as a witness for the prosecution that being restrained was, in combination with his underlying heart conditions "just more than Mr. Floyd could take."
Floyd’s heart health and drug ingestion were a major focus for Chauvin’s defense attorney, Eric Nelson, who sought to portray them as having more to do with the death than his client did.

Juror in Derek Chauvin trial speaks out after guilty verdict

Raguse: Did you know that you were going to be an alternate in this case?
Christensen: No, I did not.
Raguse: Were you disappointed when you found out that you were an alternate?
Christensen: I was. I spent three weeks of my time, getting invested and going through all kinds of emotions. My heart broke a little when he turned and said, “Number 96, you’re an alternate."
Raguse: When you made it on the jury, how much did you know about the case and what were your thoughts on being a part of it?
Christensen: I saw the video, but not in its entirety. I saw it two or three times on the news. I do not use social media, so I did not post anything or see anything on there.

Alternate juror in Chauvin trial was 'concerned' about safety from people upset with verdict

An alternate juror in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was worried about her safety should people be upset with the verdict the jury reached, she said.
When the trial started, Brooklyn Center resident Lisa Christensen had “mixed feelings” about being a juror and wrote that she didn’t know how she felt about being one in a questionnaire, she said Thursday.
“The reason, at that time, was I did not know what the outcome was going to be, so I felt like either way you are going to disappoint one group or the other,” she told KARE 11. “I did not want to go through rioting and destruction again, and I was concerned about people coming to my house if they were not happy with the verdict.”
