DALLAS -- Ty Dellandrea is getting a great opportunity.
The 20-year-old forward, who was the Stars' first-round draft pick (13th overall) in 2018, has been able to step onto the checking line because Blake Comeau has been out and dealing with the COVID-19 protocol. While it's only been two games for the versatile Dellandrea, he has definitely made an impression.
"This kid is full of confidence. We love it," said Stars coach Rick Bowness. "He's a National Hockey League player."

It’s hard to look at the opening 7-0 Dallas Stars win over the Nashville Predators and not feel great. Dallas found the net with regularity, and by the end of the game, the “Dobby” chants were echoing through a full-as-could-be American Airlines Center.
With five power-play goals, an even-strength goal, and a shorthanded tally to back it up, there wasn’t much that Nashville could do to end the celebration of live hockey’s return to the Metroplex. The Stars needed to wash the disappointment of a Stanley Cup loss out of the system, and the Friday night should have accomplished just that.

DALLAS -- The Stars have dealt with injury problems quite a bit in the recent past, so the fact that they might have lost two forwards in the past two days is par for the course.
Jamie Benn is a game-time decision after suffering a lower-body injury in the season opener. He missed practice Saturday and the morning skate Sunday. Joel Kiviranta left practice Saturday with a lower-body injury and was placed on injured Sunday morning. The Stars already were missing Tyler Seguin (expected to return in April after off-season hip surgery) and Blake Comeau (in the COVID-19 protocol), so this could just test the team depth even more.

FRISCO, Texas -- Jamie Benn laughed on the first day of training camp when asked how it is playing on a line with young speedsters Denis Gurianov and Roope Hintz.
"I'm just trying to catch up with them all of the time," Benn said after practice Monday.
In their first scrimmage together on Wednesday, Benn caught up pretty well. The 31-year-old Stars captain had two goals and helped make that line the most noticeable in the scrimmage.

Out of all the years that I’ve been doing these Dallas Stars prospect rankings for Defending Big D, this edition has definitely been the trickiest to put together.
It’s always a little bit challenging to take each year’s draft crop, a bunch of fresh-faced 18- and 19-year-olds, and slot them in alongside guys who are already knocking on the NHL’s door. This time around there’s also a talented free-agent signing out of the NCAA to include, while someone who once made it inside the top 10 missed the entire 2020 calendar year due to injury, making him a lot harder to slot.
