But the fed proposed central soma plan falls far short of that 50 goal. It only proposes that 33 of all future use soma housing will be affordable. That is not enough. If soma doesnt achieve the 50 goal, theres no hope that the r els that the rest of San Francisco ever request. It will take direct city intervention to acquire those sources and hundreds of millions of city sources to build them and development of middle Income Housing. The missing mid is vital to maintain the social and cultural diversity. Otherwise, we may back very divided societies of just the welltodo and the poor. We cant let that happen. South of markets location next to an everexpanding downtown San Francisco is both a terrible curse and great blessing.
