Otezla. show more of you. john: president biden holding a news conference last hour at nato headquarters in brussels. the president talking about new developments coming out of the high stakes emergency meetings on the war in ukraine. peter doocy travelling with the president in brussels and peter, i got to say in the press conference the president did not go too deep into the press corps. he really didn t. six out of 21, so just about a third of the people who came all the way to europe to try to ask him questions. but the president did make some news. he said he plans to respond in kind with nato partners if russia use as a chemical weapon. he hopes that president xi does not get more involved and he said today that sanctions were never meant to deter, which is kind of a remarkable statement from the president because it s been exactly one month, he said ....
Depend on the nature of the use. john: he said it would trigger a response in kind, i m not sure those are the words he meant to say because that would suggest we would respond with chemical weapons as well. but the bigger point, you believe that president biden should draw a red line with russia in terms of the potential use of chemical weapons. yet in september in 2013, the obama administration drew a red line and then ignored it. why would russia be afraid of the red line? we did not make it clear up front what would happen, and vladimir putin based on intelligence is publicly available, miscalculated. he thought the west is not going to respond, even with tough sanctions, and miscalculated as to the ukrainian response and the degree of bravery and courage we would see. but i think you have to be clear, one of the lessons we have learned and let s be clear to try to have it be deterrent going to the horrible weapons ....
