Hundreds of attendees joined to celebrate the dedication of Phase 1 of the Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial, located in Memorial Park, Royal Oak.
Art Fishman, a Navy veteran who served in the Pacific in WWII, had been involved in the planning of the city's WWII memorial for 10 years. The first phase of the project was dedicated recently, and Fishman, 95, was there.
ROYAL OAK — Volunteers have poured countless hours into the Michigan World War II Legacy Memorial, which will be an interactive and educational monument highlighting Michigan’s important role in the war.
The memorial, recognized by the Legislature as the state's tribute to the war, is to be built in Memorial Park in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak.
