On this day in 1931 Sir John Monash, soldier, engineer and administrator, died. Monash was considered one of the First World War’s outstanding commanders. Loved and admired by many, more than 250,000 mourners attended his state funeral in Melbourne.
Sir John Monash, probably best known for his role as commander of the Australian army corps in France during World War I, died 90 years ago.
