Trump visit was an opportunity to inject politics into border debate
PHARR — As sober discussions on border security and immigration policy go, Wednesday's visit to South Texas by former President Donald Trump and Gov. Greg Abbott wasn’t a bad campaign rally. Dance music both welcomed the Republican political leaders to the stage in front of a section of unfinished border wall and ushered them off. There was enough red meat dished out to fill the bellies of just about everyone of the GOP elected officials from Texas and from out of state who made their way along two-lane asphalt and unpaved caliche roads to reach the site in the town of Pharr.
