Though some Air Quality Index spikes have been caused by wildfires, this time it was a fire at a paper mill in Washington. Some counties are under an air pollution advisory until Friday.
According to news reports, the fire at the Weyerhaeuser Paper Facility was primarily burning in woodchip piles and log decks, and led to heavy smoke and road closures.
According to Jon Dunaway from the Longview Fire Department, the smoke coming out of the Weyerhaeuser facility is lingering close to the ground. As a precautionary measure, they advised people to remain indoors and keep their doors and windows closed.
