High School Sports: Basketball Tigers hoping to build on success (7/13/21)

Tuesday, July 13, 2021 The Green Forest Tigers had one of their most successful basketball seasons in years in 2020-21. Now coach Shane Compton’s team is hard at work trying to build on that success. “So far, we’ve had a pretty good summer,” Compton said recently. “We’re going to be going to several camps and and we feel like we played pretty well in all of them, trying to figure out who we are right now.” The Tigers will have to replace one all-conference player in the now-graduated Daniel McDonald, the team’s leading scorer last season. Tuesday, March 9, 2021 Heading into his team’s game against Waldron in the first round of the 3A-1 regional tournament, Green Forest coach Shane Compton was hoping the Tigers could find a way to contain the Bulldogs’ top two scorers. Green Forest had some success there, holding Gada Wagner to 15 points and Isaac Villereal to 13. But senior guard Jaden Hutchens picked up the offensive slack for Waldron, making seven three-pointers and scoring 29 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 68-41 victory over the Tigers on Wednesday, March 3, at Bergman. While Waldron advanced to this week’s Class 3A s...

High School Sports: Cedarville nips Tigers (12/29/20)

Tuesday, December 29, 2020 Green Forest coach Shane Compton believes the Tigers have a chance to compete in the 3A-1 conference after struggling for the past few seasons. A 44-41 home loss to an athletic Cedarville team on Monday, Dec. 21 at the Grim Gym didn’t dampen that optimism, although Compton says the Tigers have yet to put a full game together. In fact, Compton says Green Forest had a chance to beat Cedarville. “We missed six free throws in the fourth quarter,” he said. Senior Daniel McDonald scored 12 points for the Tigers and classmate Adrian Serna had 10. Junior Jordan McLoud ad...
