George Gordon Liddy died on March 30 at the age of 90. The Guardian reports he died from complications from Parkinson's disease.
G. Gordon Liddy was the mastermind behind the Watergate burglary, which eventually led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation. In 1973, Liddy was sentenced to 20 years in jail for illegally wiretapping the Democratic Party's headquarters at the Watergate office complex, conspiracy and burglary.
Liddy was part of a secret group of special investigators called the "White House plumbers," that worked to find out who leaked information that made President Nixon look back.

Watergate's G. Gordon Liddy mourned as 'hero' in Poughkeepsie

Ron Arico of Poughkeepsie, a former full-time deputy sheriff in the county, said then-sheriff Lawrence Quinlan introduced him to Liddy, who at the time was an assistant district attorney.
"I heard him speak a couple times," Arico recalled. "And he was the one who inspired me to go into law enforcement. He's a part of history. I couldn't not be here."
Tom O'Neill, of Wappingers Falls, knew Liddy in a professional capacity.
"He was my attorney before he went to Washington," O'Neill said. "He always cared about everybody."
As an assistant district attorney in Dutchess County in the 1960s, Liddy gained a reputation for fighting drug use, even arresting Timothy Leary, who was well-known for his psychedelic experiments with the therapeutic use of LSD in the Town of Washington.

G. Gordon Liddy, convicted in Watergate, to be buried in Poughkeepsie

Liddy worked as an assistant district attorney in Dutchess in the 1960s, gaining a reputation for attempting to crack down on drug use, and in 1968 launched an unsuccessful bid to represent the region in Congress. That attempt, though, helped him gain the attention of people such as Gerald Ford in Washington, D.C., and he soon was given a job in the White House.
A former FBI agent and Army veteran, Liddy was convicted of conspiracy, burglary and illegal wiretapping for his role in the Watergate burglary, which led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. He spent four years and four months in prison, including more than 100 days in solitary confinement.
