Cllr Andrew’s two years as mayor encompassed unprecedented circumstances and many challenges. Regrettably, due to Covid, he was not able to host any fund raising activities for his chosen charities. Therefore, he decided to donate funds from his mayor’s allowance. Along with partner Jane Lloyd, he presented a cheque for £260 to Wales Air Ambulance at Mid Wales Airport last week, and a cheque of the same value has been sent to Cancer Research UK. Jane said: “While it’s not as much as we would have liked, as unfortunately we were not able to hold any fundraising events, we were pleased to be able to donate some funds to the two charities and support their vital work in some way in a tough time for charities.” ....
Arts and crafts To celebrate the relaxing of some of the lockdown rules, a group of Montgomery artists and crafters are getting together and hiring The Old Bell Gallery on Arthur Street. It will open on Saturday, May 29 and throughout the Bank Holiday weekend, from 10am until 4 pm. After that, the ‘shop’ will continue to be open throughout June, weekly from Mondays through to Saturdays inclusive. There will be a wide range of handcrafted work on sale and the group is hoping that visitors will get a ‘shop-like’ experience with the different things on offer. With an array of paintings, prints and greeting cards, beautifully crafted macrame, exciting up-cycled objects, small, individual fused glass pieces, and even one-of-a-kind hand woven scarves and much more, there will be plenty to suit all interests. ....
Jenny Bailey-Beech is giving some of her Okami Makes card making profits to charities and her most recent chosen charity was Water Aid. The nine year old has been able to donate £100 to the charity which works across the world to transform lives by improving access to clean water, toilets and hygiene. Jenny said: “I chose to support Water Aid because we twinned a tap in Montgomery Children’s Church to help people who live in poor countries and protect them from COVID-19. “I thought this was a really good practical thing to help, so I decided I’d like to raise more funds for them.” ....
