Cornut-Chauvinc falls in NCAA Singles Tournament

ORLANDO – Florida State’s No. 7-ranked Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc fell to Florida’s Axel Nefve in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the first round of the NCAA Singles Tournament on Monday.

After rain delays pushed the match back from its 6:00 p.m. start time, the first serve began at 11:35 p.m.

Nefve battled back from a 3-1 deficit to take the first set 6-3 after winning five straight games.

Cornut-Chauvinc’s dominant 6-1 second-set victory meant the match required a third set to determine a winner.

Nefve clinched the win and will advance to the second round of the NCAA Singles Tournament after a 6-3 third-set victory.

This was the second time Cornut-Chauvinc and Nefve played this season, with Cornut-Chauvinc earning a 6-1, 6-4 victory earlier over Nefve this spring.

Cornut-Chauvinc and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif will play Florida’s William Grant and Nefve in the NCAA Doubles Tournament on Tuesday.
