Fairbanks man dies of Covid, virus continues to spread in Interior


A Fairbanks man in his 20s has died from Covid-19, state health officials reported Thursday, as local virus transmission rates continue to lead the state.
On Thursday alone, more than one-fourth of all Alaskan cases — 22 total — were registered in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Most of the people contracting the virus are in their 20s and 30s, according to the state Covid-19 Case Dashboard.
“While a lot of folks in our community have moved on beyond Covid, we haven't and our staff hasn’t,” said Shelley Ebenal, executive director at Foundation Health Partners. “We are not out of Covid. I know our community is tired, and I know they don't want to wear a mask, and I know they want this to be over, and that’s great; I get it. But it’s not.”

Weekend pop-up vaccination events in Fairbanks


In Fairbanks, you can now get a Covid-19 vaccine while going to the movies, walking by the J.P. Jones Center and maybe while attending a hockey game.
Upcoming pop-up vaccination clinics are part of the Sleeves Up for Summer campaign, launched by the state and local governments to increase Alaska’s Covid-19 vaccinations. To protect Alaskans from the virus and keep the state up and running before summer rolls in, the goal is to cover 25% more people in May — which means vaccinating 18,000 additional residents in the Interior. 
“We are looking at new different ways to get information and vaccinations out to people,” said Dr. Mark Simon, an emergency physician at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.

The AARP provides tax filing aid to seniors. This year this service has moved largely online to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -Come tax season the AARP offers a tax-aide program for seniors over 50 to assist in the process of filing their tax returns. Normally this service is available in Fairbanks with options for walk-in meetings and scheduled appointments at Noel Wien Library and the Fairbanks Senior Center. However, this year things are different due to COVID-19.
