It’s rare that a man’s achievements are so significant that two eulogies are required; one to recount his impact on the professional world, and another to sum up his decency and generosity. But the late Professor John Raphael (Ray Bates) of Kilmore Quay was one such man. He passed away on Saturday, January 6 at the age of 83 and at his funeral Mass in St. Peter's Church, Kilmore Quay, Ray’s brother, Dick, paid tribute.

April 6, 2021 Kuo-Nan Liou, a UCLA distinguished professor of atmospheric sciences and the founding director of the Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE), died March 20 at his home in Los Angeles after a brief illness. He was 77. “Kuo-Nan was a great scientist and an outstanding leader, who had a profound impact on science and on UCLA. We will miss him greatly,” said Miguel Garcia-Garibay, dean of the UCLA Division of Physical Sciences.
