It seems Americans have never disagreed with each other on more things than they do right now, and one program is trying to find a way out, starting with teenagers. Naomi Gould, 17, is a junior at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, Maryland. She took part in the Junior State of America Political Penpals program. “I would say that it changed me,” Gould said. Each year, members of the national, student-run organization Junior State of America (JSA) long for Winter Congress, a three-day convention in Washington D.C. where students from all over the country come together to participate in a mock Congress. "I've always wanted to play and I've watched all my cousins, dad and brother play growing up," Mitchell said. "I've always been around the touch footy and oztag scene so I just thought why not give it a go." She said her first year in the sport was amazing. "It was a new team so there was a lot of girls that were new to it, so that was good for me so I didn't feel so left out," Mitchell said. "And we actually went on to win the comp so it was a pretty amazing year." She said the squad was looking forward to getting on the field.
