By Douglas Okoro Abakaliki, Jan. 21, 2021 Scores of protesters on Thursday stormed the Abakaliki High Court complex to kick against the judge’s recusal from the suit on the dissolution of the Caretaker Committee of the Ebonyi Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The protesters, numbering at least 100 and believed to be loyal to the former Chairman of the committee, Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi, marched to the court premises at about 4 pm to register their anger over the development. They started with a march through the major roads in Abakaliki metropolis, chanting war songs before heading for the court complex but warded off at the gate by security operatives. ....

No fewer than one hundred suspected political thugs on Thursday stormed Ebonyi State High court in Abakaliki, to protest over alleged leadership tussle rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Investigation revealed that the suspected hoodlums invaded the court to protest against the decision of a Judge, Justice Vincent Nwanchor, who recused himself from entertaining a suit brought before it by the Chairman of a faction of the PDP, Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi, who was sacked by the national leadership of the party. Recall that Justice Nwanchor had while resigning as the third Judge in a row to reject the bidding of the plaintiffs in suit No: HAB/161/2020 after his brother Judges; the State’s Chief Judge, Justice Anselm Nwigwe and Justice Elvis Ngene towed similar paths acceded to one of a two-point of facts contained in a motion on notice brought by the 8th defendant and also a lead counsel in the suit, Barr. Punch Newspapers Sections Edward Nnachi, Abakaliki The Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has petitioned the State Chief Judge, Justice Anselm Nwigwe, over alleged unlawful connivance and meddling by a staff of the court and others to frustrate its appeal. The PUNCH reports that the appeal came on the heels of preliminary issues bordering on jurisdiction raised by its counsel, Chief K. C. O. Njamanze (SAN), on December 21, 2020, which led the party to file a notice of appeal and motion for stay of proceeding on the same day. The petition was dated January 6, 2020 and titled, ‘Complaint of unlawful connivance and underhand activities to frustrate our appeal in Suit No: HAB/161/2020; Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi & two others vs PDP & 11 others by Mr Ezinwa Ogudu, the Head, Appeal Department of High Court’. ....
Views: Visits 42 The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Mr. Fred Udeogu, has dragged the state Chief Judge (CJ), Justice Anselm Nwigwe, before the National Judicial Council (NJC) and Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) over alleged abuse of office. Udeogu had in the four-page petition dated December 7, referred to what he termed “obnoxious ex parte injunction” in the suit challenging Governor Dave Umahi’s decision on the suspension of the PDP’s State Executive Committee as basis for the action. The PDP chief, in the petition, called on the NJC and CJN to probe into the speedy re-assignment of the case by the CJ to himself allegedly at the behest of the governor. ....
