DALLAS - A Dallas appeals court heard arguments Tuesday from Amber Guyger's defense team as they challenged her murder conviction.
The hearing happened before a three-judge panel of the Fifth Court of Appeals. The panel is reviewing whether the evidence against Guyger was sufficient to prove shooting and killing Botham Jean was murder -- or something less.
Guyger attorney Mike Mowla said his client should be acquitted of murdering Jean because of what's called "mistake of fact," that Guyger's actions were reasonable under what she thought she knew at the time.

DALLAS (AP) â A panel of three Texas appeals court judges appeared skeptical Tuesday of arguments to overturn the conviction of a former Dallas police officer who was sentenced to prison for fatally shooting her neighbor in his home.
An attorney for Amber Guyger clashed with a Dallas County prosecutor over whether the evidence was sufficient to prove that her 2018 shooting of Botham Jean was murder.
The hearing examined a Dallas County jury's 2019 decision to sentence Guyger to 10 years in prison for murder. It follows the recent conviction of a former Minneapolis police officer who was found guilty of murdering George Floyd, again focusing national attention on police killings and racial injustice.

(DALLAS) — A Texas appeals court is mulling whether to throw out the murder conviction of Amber Guyger for the 2018 killing of Botham Jean after the former Dallas police officer’s attorney argued on Tuesday that she was acting in self-defense when she accidentally entered the wrong apartment and thought she was confronting an intruder.
An attorney for Guyger, who is serving a 10-year prison sentence, argued before the Court of Appeals in the Fifth District of Texas in Dallas that Guyger should be acquitted of murder. Defense attorney Michael Mowla asked the three-judge panel to resentence Guyger on the lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide if it decides not to grant her a full acquittal.
