A woman has been charged with conspiring to defraud the Kenya National Organisation for Victims of Ethnic clashes out of Sh7,099,000.
Lydia Murugu Wanjohi denied the charge before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku. She allegedly committed the offence on diverse dates between August 14, 2018 and September 09, 2020 at the organisation's offices in Kariobangi, Nairobi, jointly with others.
She faced another count which she also pleaded not guilty to, that on the same day she stole Sh750,000 belonging to the organisation.
She was released on a cash bail of Sh500,000 with one surety pending the mention of the case next week.

MKU Student Tells Court He Was Caught With 23 Grams of Weed Not 200 gms
A student at the Mount Kenya University has been charged with being in possession of marijuana.
Brian Kamau Kariuki, who is undertaking a course in Public Administration, was reportedly arrested in the Nairobi CBD with cannabis worth Sh2000.
The court heard that on July 6, 2021, at the Globe Cinema roundabout in Nairobi, the accused was found to be in possession of 200grams of marijuana.
According to a statement recorded at the police station, Brian confessed to the police that the weed was for personal use.
He appeared before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku at Milimani law courts where a plea of not guilty was entered after he said the marijuana was not 200gms but 23gms.
