A lack of wind made for a slow start at Sunday's 'Cool Kites' event, but soon a plethora of giant kites were seen floating over Detroit Lake to kick off Sunday's Polar Fest schedule.

Despite the cold, snowy and blustery weather on Sunday, Polar Fest events like the Minne-Soda Hot Dish and Dessert Bar Challenge and Cool Kites on the Lake drew good crowds.
