New USDA Western Wheat Quality Lab director Sean Finnie took over July 30, replacing Craig Morris, who died in 2021 after 32 years as director. Finnie has a long history with the lab – he started working there as a dishwasher as a college student and his master's thesis was working with industry to standardize pancake quality. "When the opportunity came up for this job, I couldn't turn it down," Finnie says.
