TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The third-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (2-0) started the season off with a bang as they earned a 5-0 sweep of Southern Miss and a 4-1 win over No. 8 Loyola Marymount Saturday afternoon.
Florida State started the day off with an easy win over Southern Miss, 5-0. FSU won all five matches in straight sets. The Seminoles fourth and fifth pairs started the afternoon winning both matches, giving the Noles a 2-0 lead. Both pairs jumped out to early leads in the first sets and held on to them. Avery Poppinga and Kate Privett gabbed the first set on court five 21-10. They jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead in the second set and turned that into a 21-6 win, giving FSU a 1-0 lead.
Payton Caffrey and Liz Waters-Leiga picked up where they left off a season ago, as the pair won their 14th straight match together dating back to last season. They took the first set 21-18 on court four ....
