A judge’s order restricting defense attorney’s abilities to challenge withheld evidence has opened up a rift between Albany and the state court system.

Judge Keisha Espinal, the supervising judge of Kings County Criminal Court, issued a controversial order on Monday. Defense attorneys said it undermines lawmakers’ efforts to ensure prosecutors disclose evidence against their clients.
