“In the back left, a signed card from Kurt Vonnegut. It says, ‘Life is no way to treat an animal.’ Lovely saying. I was friendly with him for quite a while. On the far right, the bicycle wheel is a Marcel Duchamp model. He was always so unbelievably original. But he’s dead. Next to it is a cookie jar of W.C. Fields. He used to say the most wonderful things: ‘I never drink water. I don’t like what fish do in it!’ I’ve always gone on about W.C. Fields being the funniest. On the left, there’s an LMS toy train—London, Midland & Scottish Railway. My father built me a train set upstairs in the attic that I could climb inside and come out in the middle. I could run the trains around me, which was quite a nice thing to do at the time, and that’s one of the trains from it. To the left, with the big beak, is a Needless Smut model.
