An outdoor aquarium at Port Canaveral is almost three-quarters of the way to being fully-funded, Brevard County's zoo told commissioners Wednesday.

The Brevard Zoo has added some new elements to its proposed aquarium and conservation center project.

Brevard Zoo officials announced a $5 million gift from the DSF Charitable Foundation that will play a pivotal role in funding the Sea Turtle Care Complex at the future Aquarium and Conservation Center in Port Canaveral. When built, the Aquarium will be a second campus for Brevard Zoo that will serve as a regional conservation hub with an emphasis on restoring our coastal ecosystems, including the Indian River Lagoon, rehabilitating sea turtles and manatees and engaging children and families in conservation through fun, interactive, hands-on experiences.
