Neighbors and environmentalists gathered Saturday to give canoe tours of the African American Heritage Water Trail and christen the Prairie Boat gathering space at Beaubien Woods.

The Field Museum is now displaying "Calumet Voices, National Stories." It's the culmination of a traveling exhibit that was curated with more than 15 museums and libraries.

The museum was founded in 1916, when the Porter County Historical Society gathered artifacts from all 12 townships to display as part of Indiana’s centennial celebration.
