On March 21, the Tibet Exile Organization Committee formally announced the candidates for Sikyong, and the candidates will be formally voted for on April 11. Although the exile organization has not yet been officially recognized by any international organization, the election is still receiving media attention. The main reason was that many internal problems broke out in this election, such as corruption and factional struggles.
Sikyong is the head of the Tibetan exile organization. It is reported that the title was created in 2012. On April 26, 2017, Kashag’s internal circular announced that it would be translated as sikyong in English and became the leader of the Tibetan exile organization. The second and final round of elections will be held on April 11. ....

Lobsang Sangay completes his second term as President (Sikyong) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) next year. This leaves the door open for new candidates to take up the key role of leading the CTA headquarters in Dharamsala after a decade.

Tibetans living outside their China-ruled homeland are set to hold a vote on Jan. 3 to seat a new political leader, or Sikyong, for their Dharamsala, India-based government-in-exile as the current officeholder’s five-year term in office nears its end.
Lobsang Sangay, a Harvard-trained scholar of law, has now served two consecutive five-year terms as Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) since 2011 and will leave that post when his present term ends in May 2021.
The Jan. 3 vote for Sikyong and for members of the 17
th Tibetan parliament in exile will be followed by a second, and final, round of voting on April 11, the CTA’s Chief Election Commission says. ....
