Families of innocent victims lash out after release of Milltown killer Michael Stone

After the Milltown attack, in which he also killed John Murray and Kevin Brady, Stone was subsequently found guilty of the murder of Dermot Hackett, who was found dead in his bread delivery van in 1987, Patrick Brady in 1984 and Kevin McPolin in 1985.
Mr Hackett s family said in a statement: Whilst Michael Stone served a prison sentence for the murder many questions remain unanswered, particularly around his relationship with the state. Michael Stone most definitely did not act alone, the role of the state and in particular RUC special branch and British Military Intelligence remain to be clarified. ....

Family of victim angry as Loyalist killer Michael Stone released from prison early

Last November Northern Ireland’s highest court ruled that Stone could apply for early release from prison.
It said keeping the notorious paramilitary behind bars until at least 2024 would “constitute an interference with the physical liberty of the prisoner and could only arise under clear authority of the law”, and in its view this could not be implied.
In 1988, Stone killed three people in a gun and grenade attack at Milltown Cemetery in Belfast.
Stone was freed early from prison in 2000 under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement.
He was sent back six years later after attempting to attack Sinn Fein leaders Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness at Stormont. ....

Fury as UDA killer Michael Stone released from jail on parole

The families of two of loyalist killer Michael Stone s victims have condemned his release from Maghaberry Prison on parole.
The family of Dermot Hackett said they still live with the heartache of his death, while the family of Thomas McErlean, who pursued legal action to try and keep Stone imprisoned, said they have been denied the chance to heal .
It emerged yesterday evening that the notorious former UDA serial killer had been released after Northern Ireland s highest court ruled that he could apply for parole last November.

Lawyers set to challenge decision to release loyalist Michael Stone on parole

Lawyers acting for the sister of one of loyalist Michael Stone s murder victims are to challenge the decision to release him on parole.
An emergency judicial review has been issued which seeks to challenge the legality of the decision by the Parole Commissioners to release Stone from Maghaberry Prison on Tuesday.

The case will be heard in Belfast s High Court on Thursday morning.
It will also challenge the decision of the commissioners not to provide reasons for Stone s release, their refusal to provide documents or information about the proceedings or allow the relatives of his victims to participate, a solicitor acting for them has said. ....
