Urena off the mark as Mariners fend off Glory in Perth

The Mariners skipped out to a 2-0 lead in Tuesday night's match after first-half goals to Urena and Matt Simon.
But in a frenetic second half, Glory pulled one back in the 65th minute through Bruno Fornaroli, before launching wave after wave of attack in search of an equaliser.
Perth came close on numerous occasions, with Andy Keogh fluffing a header, Daniel Stynes having a close-range air swing, and Fornaroli sending a header just over.
Glory captain Diego Castro gave the Mariners all sorts of problems around the penalty area.
But the Mariners stood firm under the intense heat, with the win lifting them four points clear on top of the table.

Castro, Fornaroli fire record-breaking Glory to win over Roar

Perth have won three straight matches, after captain Castro netted either side of a fine Bruno Fornaroli volley.
Jack Hingert headed in on the stroke of half-time to ensure the match was level at the interval, but Brisbane fell to defeat despite racking up 20 attempts on goal.
On his A-League debut, Perth substitute Kosuke Ota had a hand in creating the second-half goals from Fornaroli and Castro for the free-scoring hosts, who have now netted 18 times across their first six games, an A-League record.
Glory have three games in hand on most of the teams above them and are up to fifth in the table, two points behind Brisbane and six adrift of leaders Central Coast Mariners.

Moon happy Roar are creating chances despite not scoring in past three matches

Brisbane Roar coach Warren Moon is adamant his team's goalscoring drought is nothing to worry about, but veteran striker Scott McDonald won't be on hand to help them end it for the next few weeks.

Perth Glory poised to unleash talented 16-year-old in season-opener

With league demographics shifting this season due to the effects of the reduced broadcast deal with Fox Sports and challenges wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic, A-League clubs have increasingly been turning to young players in 2020/21.
Though caveats must be observed surrounding extended benches for Australian U23 players and an increase in available substitutes to five, the average age of squads so far this season sits at 26.1 - one of the lowest figures ever - and the likes of James Delianov, Lachlan Rose, Alou Kuol, Connor Metcalfe, Ramy Najjarine and more have all shone.
Now,
SBS The World Game understands that when Perth Glory takes the field against Adelaide United at HBF Park on Wednesday night, Josh Rawlins appears set to get his chance to add his name to those exciting ranks; emerging as the club's front-runner to replace the departed Ivan Franjic on the right side of the Glory defence.

Perth Glory head coach Richard Garcia's off-season plunge into the transfer market had one key goal at its core: seek out top-shelf defensive talents and secure their signatures.
And now, with his side's first game of the 2020/21 campaign finally appearing on the horizon, the new Glory boss prepares to make his bow as an A-League coach with three superb defensive acquisitions at his disposal.
A lot has changed out West since Perth fell to a 2-0 defeat to Sydney FC in the 2019/20 Finals Series; former boss Tony Popovic departed the club along with former Football Director Jacob Burns and a raft of quality players to boot.

Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years and if the wretched year that is 2020 has taught me anything, it’s that I’ll never take for granted attending a football game ever again.
It’s not looking good for the A-League’s new-look summer schedule.
An anticipated start date of December 27 is looking more and more tenuous by the hour, with Sydney’s latest COVID-19 outbreak rattling the local populace and leaving the city’s sports schedule hanging by a knife edge.
