San Diegans started celebrating Juneteenth Friday and will be well into the weekend until official Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is the commemoration of the end of slavery specifically in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

SAN DIEGO —  Local artists will use dance, poetry and music to pay tribute to nonprofits that serve southeastern San Diego neighborhoods in an upcoming virtual concert presented by the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation.
