'Unbiased' promise: SC-appointed committee assure farmers about their neutrality


The Supreme Courtappointed committee on the contentious farm laws met for the first time on Tuesday and sought to assure all farmers of an unbiased hearing, the personal opinions of the three members overseeing the process notwithstanding.
“The Supreme Court has nominated us for this job not to share our views but to carry out consultations with all stakeholders and make recommendations based on these interactions,” Pramod Joshi, an agricultural economist who is one of the three remaining members of the committee, told

The Supreme Court had appointed four members for the committee, but one of those nominated Bhupinder Singh Mann, the chairman of the All India Kisan Coordination Committee, was quoted by his outfit as having recused himself, purportedly in deference to the prevailing sentiments of the farmers. NIA farmer 'repression' on; one dirty trick flops


The protesting farmers on Sunday confirmed they would conduct a “kisan parade” in Delhi on Republic Day and invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of peaceful protest, upset but outwardly unfazed by the government’s use of the National Investigation Agency to cut off support for them.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha condemned the “repression” by the government, which has got the NIA to file cases against those supporting the farmers by providing buses, organising langars or paying compensation to the kin of the dead.
Darshan Pal of the Krantikari Kisan Union, a constituent of the SKM, said the farmer unions would challenge the NIA action in court. ....
