Amberley invests in Kurz's Digital Metal unit

UK-based Amberley Labels has invested in a Kurz DM-Jetliner featuring the new Digital Metal technology enabling ink transfer onto paper and plastic substrates to support continued growth in premium finishing in the beverage, fragrance and cosmetics sectors.
Located at Amberley’s Blandford facility in Dorset, the foil jetliner is integrated within an HP Indigo 6000 series press for added in-line digital foiling capability to create custom and multiple color varieties within a single label.
The Digital Metal technology utilizes digital inkjet adhesion combined with a silver base for in-line indigo ink application to enable new color foil options. According to Kurz, it also delivers significant sustainable benefits achieved via reduced originations and metallic rationalization. ....

CEC enters label market with Heidelberg

CEC Print Solutions of Union City, California, has installed a new Versafire EP from Heidelberg to expand its production capacity into the packaging and label segments.
CEC, established in 1974, has gone through various business transformations over the years, from envelope manufacturer and traditional offset printer, through to a pure digital shop. Now, the company diversifies from conventional commercial print to short run labels, packaging, and wide-format printing.
‘When we first got into digital many years ago, we used a variety of products from different manufacturers but were never satisfied,’ said Owner Amit Chokshi. ‘In 2015, we originally went with Heidelberg because of their level of support and service. Once we got the experience with Heidelberg, it went so smoothly that we never looked at other machines.’ ....

Voluntary ASTM Face Coverings Safety and Performance Standard

In response to industry and consumer demand created by the COVID-19 pandemic, ASTM International (ASTM) has released a new voluntary standard for the design, labeling, testing, and performance of face coverings. The new standard, ASTM F3502-21, is the first voluntary standard directed at face coverings and “is intended to establish a national baseline” to allow consumers to make more informed decisions about the face covering products they use.
ASTM F3502-21 specifies several test procedures designed to measure sub-micron particulate filtration efficiency, airflow resistance, and leakage. Importantly, the standard requires that all tests be performed by a laboratory accredited under ISO/IEC 17025 to perform the tests. The standard further specifies design requirements, including that face coverings should be made with “non-irritating” and “non-toxic” materials and should not pose a flammability hazard. ....
