As eastern Pender County continues to grow, a group of developers made plans for hundreds of people to become new neighbors with an apartment complex, but there’s Hampstead residents who believe their community is becoming too crowded.
The idea for Headwaters Apartments is one of several development goals making growth inescapable for the unincorporated community between the beach towns of Topsail Beach and Surf City. Hampstead is also considered part of the greater Wilmington area, which also continues to swell.
During a recent meeting hosted by the Pender County Board of Commissioners, nearby homeowners were invited to listen to a rezoning request, which could have been another step to move forward. Residents expressed concerns regarding the proposed project for the east side of U.S. 17 between the intersection of Hughes Road and Deerfield Drive.
