the houthi's capabilities to continue what they've been doing in the red sea? >> yeah, good morning, victor. the basic answer so that is we don't have a complete picture of that, so we don't know whether or not we have an effective strike. we don't know whether there was any damage to the complete infrastructure the radars, the service to air missile sites that the houthis have and whether we got after their launch facilities for their drones or any of the intended command and control elements for that. so, the short answer is we don't have a complete picture yet. but, i think they had enough of a complete picture to do this strike. and that was what prompted the action overnight. >> yeah. between these strikes, after the first but before the second, the pentagon says that they were able to fire at least one

Space, Missile Defense, and Irregular Warfare | Small Wars Journal

Those of us of a certain age grew up thinking that the first space battles would be between units of astronauts with lasers.  However, November of 2023 saw the demonstration of Israel’s cutting-edge missile defense capabilities, when it intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Houthi rebels in Yemen with the Arrow missile defense system. This event highlights the ever-evolving landscape of irregular warfare and the significance of nation-states being prepared to fully use capstone capabilities, which were originally developed to defend against other nation-states, in safeguarding their citizens from irregular threats posed by non-state actors. This demonstrates the dual realities of irregular warfare: nations not only engage in such conflicts to gain strategic advantages over their adversaries, but they must also defend against the same tactics when used against them. For instance, Iran's deployment of proxies equipped with advanced weapons likely demands a conventional, rather than irregular, response.

the balloon, watching it, reading signals off it or something? >> well, yes, and if you can observe it up close and personal, you can learn a lot about, for example, if it had antennas on it, you can do forensics on the antennas and figure out, you know, the nature of whether that might have been a transmitter or a receiver, which is very useful to know if you're going to continue to glean intelligence on just what one of these things is doing. so there are -- and the other part of this is there are ways to collect intelligence on the balloon that is not directly connected physically with the balloon itself. so if we have some insight into its launch facilities and the protocols the chinese use when they launch, that's all valuable stuff. and particularly if you can connect that with the actual operation of the balloon as it's flying.
