Mayor, Council Members Sworn In To Begin New Terms Mayor Andy Smith and city council members were sworn in to begin new terms during the Tuesday, May 18, meeting of the Hillsboro City Council. Municipal Court Judge Nicole Crain administered the Oath of Office to the mayor and council members Eric Fleming (Place 1), Dana Robinson (Place 3) and Leann Richmond (Place 5). The returning office holders were unopposed in their bids for re-election this year. Planning and zoning requests were also approved, including an ordinance to allow K and T Axe House to operate as an indoor amusement center downtown and an ordinance abandoning an alley adjacent to 605 Park Street.

Council Certifies Candidates, Awards Bid For Airport Work The Hillsboro City Council met in a regular session Tuesday, April 6, and certified unopposed candidates ahead of the May election date. The incumbents Mayor Andy Smith and council members Eric Fleming, Dana Robinson and Leann Richmond were the only candidates to file for the open positions. With all candidates unopposed, the council also officially canceled the May election for the City of Hillsboro, and office holders will take the Oath of Office Tuesday, May 18. A bid was awarded to B-C Electric for lighting improvements at the Hillsboro Municipal Airport. The improvement project is being accomplished with state and federal funding through the TxDOT Aviation Department and will update the current lighting system, which was installed in 1993 when the airport was built, and is now past its useful service life.
Share The Hillsboro City Council will meet in a regular session Tuesday, April 6, at 6 p.m. The council is expected to certify unopposed candidates and cancel the city election that was scheduled for Saturday, May 1. A bid is expected to be awarded to a company for lighting and signage improvements at the Hillsboro Municipal Airport. Preston McReynolds will be considered for appointment to the Planning and Zoning Commission to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Leann Richmond when she became a city council member. The council will also consider renewal of the city s gas franchise agreement with Atmos Energy for another 20 years.

Candidates File For Area City And School Board Positions Many area cities and schools will not need elections after the filing period for the Saturday, May 1, election date ended recently, while a few others will need elections to fill spots. The City of Hillsboro will be canceling its election after all incumbents filed to keep their seats and were uncontested. Mayor Andy Smith and council members Eric Fleming (Precinct 1), Dana Robinson (Precinct 3) and Leann Richmond (Precinct 5) all filed and were unopposed. Hillsboro Independent School District (ISD) will also not need an election after there were no contested races at the end of filing. Incumbents Dr. Chris Teague (at large) and Amanda Scarborough (District 1) filed to keep their seats and will be unopposed. Brooke Thompson, who was recently appointed to fill the position vacated by Earl Bibles, filed for that unexpired term and was the only candidate to file.
