The Ormesby Road hub was closed in 2018 and demolished the following year despite outcry from tenants and a campaign to save it from the bulldozers. Now a vote to rubber stamp a £1.7m “New Southlands” has been pushed back until June at the earliest after Middlesbrough councillors shared worries about traffic being funnelled through a nearby estate. Plans show a “modern” single storey building has been lined up for the East Middlesbrough site featuring a “multi-use hall” and two other “multi-purpose rooms”. A total of £500,000 for the revamp will come from Middlesbrough’s “Town Fund” allocation of £21.9m. ....
