Future Of EVs In India: Although the current rate of EV adoption (~5% of the annual vehicular sales) is commendable, the nation has a long road ahead to meet the pledged target of 30% EV sales by 2030. Learning from global policies, including exemptions, incentives, mandates (fleet electrification), and regulations (zero-emission zones), could help accelerate EV adoption in India. While these policies cannot be applied directly to the Indian scenario owing to its diverse and unique market dynamics, there is an opportunity for policy innovation and transformation.

The long-awaited Electronic Vehicles (EV) Policy White Paper has stressed the urgency of implementing energy and freight rail and port reforms if South Africa hopes to create a thriving industry for electric cars.

"The Bihar Electric Vehicle Policy-2023, which is designed to steer the state towards a sustainable transport paradigm, outlines ambitious goals for the next five years culminating in 2028".

EV Policy: The draft policy released earlier this month has evoked mixed responses from the stakeholders, some of whom acknowledged that a proposed increase in subsidies would be greatly beneficial. They also believe there should have been greater emphasis on incentives for consumers and component vendors.

The UT administration has removed the registration cap on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles under its EV policy. The administration has prioritized charging infrastructure and incentives, and will streamline the process for consumer convenience. Steps will be taken to expedite the establishment of charging stations. Tax rebates and incentives will be targeted specifically for eco-friendly vehicles purchased within the jurisdiction of Chandigarh.
