Being a Montrealer of a certain generation, we were instilled with a profound contempt for Toronto. But somehow, something happened.

2022 was a big year for Montreal transit. 2023 could be even bigger. With a Montreal metro extension charging ahead, the opening of the first branch of the highly anticipated Réseau express métropolitain (REM) and several other projects either already under construction, in the planning stages or otherwise on the table, Montrealers will see some monumental changes in the next decade. Some could fundamentally reshape city.This map shows what the network could look like when construction is done — and if some projects in the works actually come to fruition.

You may have noticed a lot of colourful STM signage up around the intersection of Berri and Sainte-Catherine Streets and ignored it. But if you're one of the many Montrealers who's used to entering the Berri-UQAM metro station via Sainte-Catherine Street you're going to have to replan your route. As of this week, the main entrance at the corner of Place Émilie-Gamelin will be closed until next spring.

The sixth busiest station in Montreal's metro system that around 30,000 people go through daily - Cote-Vertu - will be closed until August 22.
