Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega is sworn into office on Jan. 12, 2021.
Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega reinstated a city face covering mandate on Wednesday, one day after he was sworn into office.
Former Mayor Jim Lane had rescinded the city's mask mandate in September, three months after it was first put in place during Arizona's summer COVID-19 surge.
Ortega told The Arizona Republic on Thursday that his proclamation "strengthens" Gov. Doug Ducey’s “Mask Up Arizona” campaign and Maricopa County’s existing mask mandate.
