Dec 17, 2020 4:50 PM Charlotte Jean Smith, 82, of Union City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek. Following cremation, she will be memorialized at a later date, with private burial at North Sherwood Cemetery. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City. Char was born September 11, 1938 in Charlotte, Michigan to Garland and Marvel (Bowen) Grinage. She attended Hastings High School, a member of the Class of 1956. Char was married to Thomas Vaccaro and later to John Smith, but both unions ended in divorce. Char worked as a waitress for 25 years in Battle Creek, Union City and Coldwater, as well as Kalkaska, where she owned the Country Boy Bar. In later years she worked at the B Drive Meijer in Battle Creek. Â Â Â Char enjoyed spending time with family, especially grand- and great-grandchildren.
